Welcome again! In my last post, with the AG Face molds, I used some strange terms, such as JLY, MAG, and TM, and today I will explain them! In 1995, Pleasant company released the "American Girl of Today" line or AGoT. Later, after Pleasant Company was sold to Mattel, the name was shortened to "American Girl Today".
I guess they thought it sounded more "Modern", I'm not sure. Later, the name was changed, not shortened, but CHANGED. AG changed it to "Just Like You" or JLY. With the release of Innerstar University.
And to be honest, I love dolls enough to tell you this: I was extremely disappointed when they took the site down, because it was fun being able to interact with other "dolls" and I ALWAYS played virtual #57 as a guest, because I didn't have a doll.
After about 6 years, it was changed to My American Girl, or MAG and had this really fun way of choosing your doll, It was like, you chose your doll, then you could choose clothes and accessories for your doll, and it showed the clothes on them! But then there was always....... the total. My total when I was Like, 7 was like 258 or 395 dollars! LOL!!! So I didn't get a doll until last year. Then with the most recent change, last year or the year before the name was changed to "Truly Me" and every 2 years or so the "meet" outfit and accessories is changed "to reflect girls who are today!"
Next on the doll list, retiring! Okay, so AG retires not-so-popular dolls and extremely popular dolls to make room for more "modern" dolls. (BRING BACK #4!!!) So, you're just going to get rid of the dolls with lined eyebrows and ones with thick bangs? So I talked about that doll I got earlier, so just who is she? Truly Me #23 is the doll I got! BTW, her name is Skylar. (Don't get them earrings unless you have somewhere to keep them! unless you want awkward holes in your dolls ears...)
Although, I really want #4!!!
If anyone knows of a used #4 for a reasonable price, please let me know!
The other line is fairly young, as it was released in February with Tenney Grant and Logan Everett. It is called quite simply, Contemporary Characters.
So do you have a modern or contemporary doll? If your dolls ears are pierced, do you recommend them, or Addy or Josefina's (or none)?
'til Next Time! - JCole
